Two Great Resources for the Starving #Writer: #Contests and #Writing Submissions that Pay (some of them)

This will be a quick update, as I’m writing it while on a lunch break. I noted a great resource from Writer’s Relief this morning, and thought I’d share it.  That triggered a memory, and then…well let’s just get to the point. Below are two resources that most writers are always interested in: writing contests and publications that accept submissions. I’m sure that there are many writers out there who are very familiar with both of these sites, but since I just found out not too long ago about Duotrope I’m assuming there might be a few others out there who could use these tips.

Writer’s Relief Contest List – I’ve followed Writer’s Relief for a number of months, primarily for the useful articles and tips, as well as the resources they have on their web site.  I saw this posted today on their Facebook page, and was sufficiently impressed with it that I thought I’d share it on my blog.  There’s a lot of poetry contests in there, but also short story, flash fiction, and at least one novel contest.

Duotrope As I hammered out this blog update, I suddenly remembered this site that I stumbled across a couple of month ago. It is a fantastic database of “over 3575 current Fiction and Poetry publications.” You can select genre, subgenre, and can filter by those that pay and those that do not. It really is a remarkable site, and should probably be on your Favorites list.

I’ll be adding both of these to the Resources link at Sojourner Mountain (where I try to keep the best tools for writers that I come across). I’ll also probably be spending time this week trying to decide what contests I want to submit to.

If you have any resources you’d like to share, please let me know.  I’ll add them to my Sojourner Mountain Resources link to share with other writers.

Happy writing!
